Recently featured at the 'Made in Qatar' exhibition held at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC), an electric vehicle (EV) breakthrough was unveiled, requiring no recharging during operation. Developed by Qatari innovator Dr. Adnan Fahad Al Ramzani Al Naimi, the innovation was a highlight of the four-day event, which garnered significant attention with over 500 exhibitors and 1,100,000 social media interactions.

Dr. Al Naimi, a retired engineer from QatarEnergy with decades of experience, initially conceived the idea in 1983. Having successfully tested a minimum viable product (MVP) at that time, he paused the project due to educational and career pursuits. Now, resuming his innovative journey, Dr. Al Naimi aims to place Qatar on the global map of innovations.

The unique EV operates on a single battery that charges itself while in use, eliminating the need for regular recharging. Dr. Al Naimi explained the process: the battery powers the motor, the motor runs the engine, and a charger replenishes the battery during operation. He emphasized the distinct feature of using only one battery, unlike other EVs requiring at least two.

Costing around QR5,000 to convert a conventional car, Dr. Al Naimi highlighted the substantial benefits, including fuel and engine oil savings. Planning a road test with necessary approvals, he anticipates conducting it by the end of 2023, with considerations for special insurance and regulatory requirements.

Presently capable of converting one vehicle every two weeks, Dr. Al Naimi aspires to scale up production with additional investment, envisioning a larger role in making Qatar an industrial and innovation hub in the region.
