The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the commencement of upgrading works on Al Wukair Road, as part of the Interim Road Improvement in South of Doha Area - Phase 2. These works aim to upgrade Al Wukair Road, at a length of 2km, and convert two roundabouts into signalized intersections as well as develop infrastructure utilities’ services. On this occasion, Eng. Monira Al Mohannadi, the project engineer in the Roads Projects Department in Ashghal, emphasized the importance of this project and its significant location especially that it includes the upgrade of both the roundabout known as the Health Centre Roundabout and the roundabout known as Al Wakra Hospital Roundabout which is two of the most congested roundabouts in the area. Both roundabouts along with Al Wukair Road serve many service facilities, shops, commercial centers, and educational and health institutions. Further to converting the two existing roundabouts into signalized intersections to improve the traffic flow in the area, the project’s scope will include road developments in both directions of Al Wukair Road at a total length of 2km, providing 4km of pedestrian walkways and upgrading street lighting systems. It will also improve infrastructure utilities in the area, such as upgrading the TSE network and surface water drainage network and providing protection for the existing power lines and telecommunications cables.
