The Peninsula Newspaper reported on 5 July 2024 that Doha has been ranked as the 4th most liveable city in the MENA region by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) within the Global Liveability Index 2024.

Liveability is measured based on more than 30 indicators across five categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.

The indicators are rated as acceptable, tolerable, uncomfortable, undesirable or intolerable. A weightage is then added to the ratings providing a score from 1 to 100.

The cities are given a livability rating as an overall score and a score for each category. The cities also get ranked overall from the 173 cities being evaluated.

Vienna ranked at the top with a score of 98.4 overall on the Global Liveability Index 2024, being the most liveable city in the world, as it had been in the previous two years.

Damascus in Syria was ranked the least liveable city with a score of 30.7.

Abu Dhabi ranked at the top as the most liveable city in the MENA region with a score of 81.7 and 76th globally.

As per the findings of the Global Liveability Index, Western Europe was ranked as the most liveable region performing highly in four categories.
