Doha: The Gulf Studies Center has devoted part of its research efforts this year to study COVID-19 pandemic, its developments and economic, social and political consequences, following an approach to a comprehensive critical evaluation of the phenomenon by engaging with the broad scientific community in Qatar and abroad. 

In this context, the Center has carried out 14 diverse studies that dealt with a wide range of topics, from economics, politics, international relations to sociology, which the Center tried to cover in light of the pandemic, in addition to the issues that it has dealt with since March until now, which included the countries of the Gulf Corporation Council (GCC), Iran and Yemen, which fall within the competence of the center. 

In a related context, the Gulf Studies Center organised three seminars on COVID-19 via visual communication technology, with the participation of faculty members from the Center and QU, as well as international experts and researchers from a number of universities and international research centres. 

In light of the changes that the world is witnessing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Gulf Studies Center decided to develop a curriculum for an optional PhD course under the title ‘Gulf and COVID-19’, to be taught in the fall of 2020, with the aim of offering a comprehensive analysis of the repercussions of the global epidemic on all aspects of life in the Gulf region.
