
Doha: Northern parts of Qatar received heavy rains accompanied by hail reported the Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) while sharing tips to ensure safety during thunderstorms.
“Continuous rain in north, from medium to heavy intensity, accompanied by strong downward winds that lead to dust, low visibility and sometimes hail,” tweeted the weather department.
On Twitter, QMD also posted the latest radar images showing thundery rain which was detected in the northern parts of the country.
"Strong winds exceeding 25 knots is observed on the northern coast of the country as a result of winds coming from cumulus clouds causing blowing dust and low visibility, please be careful," QMD also stated on Twitter.
With pictures and videos shared on Twitter, local cloud development was also observed in Abu Thaloof, the northern part of the country.
It added that during its occurrence, thunderstorms may bring strong downdraft wind, hail, lightning, dust, and poor visibility. To ensure safety during this weather condition, QMD listed the following tips:
1. Stay indoors during thunderstorms
2. Make sure to close windows if you are inside a car
3. Avoid standing on roofs, or near high trees and electricity poles
4. Stay away from open water
