
A recent social media post from The Embassy of India in Doha raises concerns about fraudulent calls from individuals impersonating embassy officials. According to their statement, these fraudsters are attempting to extract personal information and extort money from Indian nationals by falsely claiming issues with passports, visas, or immigration forms.
It emphasizes that no official makes such calls and advises the public not to entertain suspicious calls, disclose personal information, or transfer money in response. Any related matters can be reported to the Embassy via email at cons.doha@mea.gov.in.
Fraudsters are spoofing the Embassy's phone numbers to make calls aimed at cheating people, the Embassy has been informed. Such callers claim to be an employee of the Embassy and seek personal information i.e. name, date of birth, credit card details, passport number etc.
As well as extorting money from Indian nationals, the caller may claim there are errors on their passports, visas, immigration forms, etc., which can be rectified by paying money, the individual was warned that if these errors were not rectified, he or she could be deported to India or imprisoned in Qatar.
These fraudsters have also falsely claimed to have received such privileged information from the Indian Embassy or other authorities in India. Embassy of India, Doha confirms that NO Official from the Embassy makes any telephone/ mobile call to seek personal information. It is advised that members of the public should not to entertain any such suspicious telephone calls made in the name of Embassy of India. They are also advised not to reveal any personal information or transfer any money in response to such calls. Such matters may be brought to the notice of the Embassy by email at cons.doha@mea.gov.in.
