According to a report on Al Sharq, on 22 August 2024, a Nigerian woman named Oyindamola Akinyera gave birth to her baby girl on board a Qatar Airways flight bound for Brazil.

The story with a happy ending was shared by Akinyera on her Instagram page and reported by Nigerian and Brazilian media. According to the reports, Akinyera and her partner were on vacation to Brazil and had a layover in Doha before boarding their flight to Brazil. She unexpectedly started feeling contractions while the plane was in the air. She added:

“Qatar Airways flight attendants turned into ‘midwives’ and assisted in the process with a doctor who was on board the flight known as Carolina. The flight attendants set up a complete birthing station at the entrance to the plane.”
“They asked if there was a doctor on board, and a doctor named Carolina came up to us and said, ‘I am delivering babies.’ She checked me and told me the baby was ready to be born. At this point, we are in Brazilian airspace and about 40 minutes from landing,” she continued.
Akinyera said she received her baby 20 minutes before the plane landed, and upon arriving in Brazil, she went straight to the hospital "and she and her newborn are in good health."

Regarding the hostess' readiness to deal with her condition, she said:

"They treated me like a princess and provided me with everything I needed. David and my hearts are filled with immense joy."
