
The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) yesterday launched ‘Qatar Dates Week’ festival at all Lulu Hypermarket stores to celebrate the season of local dates.
The festival was organised with a view to support local farmers by ensuring better marketing opportunities and value for their agricultural produces. The popular local varieties namely Tamar Khalas, Tamar Shaishi, Rathub Khalas, Rathub Shaishi, Rathub Barhee, Rathub Khanzi, Rathub Nabit and Rathub Lulu are made available on display at highly subsidised rates.
Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Naser Al Thani, Undersecretary of the Agricultural Affairs and Fisheries at MME inaugurated the festival virtually. The opening ceremony was remotely attended by Director of the Agricultural Affairs Department, Yousef Khaled Al Kualifi; Board Member of Qatar Chamber, Mohamed bin Ahmed Mohamed Ali Al Obaidli; Ministry Adviser for Agriculture, Dr. Mohammed Awad; Director of Lulu Hypermarkets Qatar, Dr. Mohamed Althaf; Chairman and Managing Director of Paramount Farm, Bader Ahmad I S Alemadi; and Chairman and Managing Director of Ajaj Farm, Ahmed Al Ajjaj.
