Israeli bombs destroyed the Al Fakhoora House in Al Rimal, Gaza, an initiative of the Qatar-based Education Above All (EAA) Foundation.

A student and family safe space in an area that hosts civil society and international organizations was destroyed during Israel's Operation Iron Swords.

In 2009, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency bombed Al Fakhoora House during Operation Cast Lead. At the time, civilians had been using it as a shelter.

In 2010, the Al Fakhoora program was launched as a direct response to the attacks on education.

EAA reiterated that collective punishment, reprisals, and attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are serious violations of international humanitarian law. If done deliberately, they would be war crimes.

Despite the violence in Gaza, Qatar is continuing its efforts to de-escalate it.

According to Dr Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, Adviser to the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the country is in constant communication with regional and international players for immediate de-escalation.

Qatar initiated contacts with regional and international players and is seeking to coordinate efforts and better understand the situation on the ground in a weekly media briefing, Al Ansari said.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, met with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, Iran, the United States, Spain, France, and the UK to discuss the crisis, coordinate efforts, exchange views, and strengthen points of agreement.

"The situation on the ground is very complicated and the current level of escalation has never been seen before," Al Ansari said.

"It's a bit early to comment on any mediation efforts by Qatar or other players of the region," he said when asked if there were any chances of Qatari mediation to diffuse war and release prisoners. Qatar has had many successes in de-escalating between two parties in the past... But at this moment (it’s) very difficult to say that any party can start mediation.”

"We need to see what is happening on the ground. We’re quite worried about what’s happening right now. We hope the international community will work together to de-escalate the situation,” he added.

Qatar's initiatives are intended to coordinate regional and international efforts to stop fighting, end bloodshed, and free prisoners.
