The Ministry of Education and Higher Education is preparing to upload about 1,700 recorded video lessons on YouTube for the students of government schools starting from Sunday, under its virtual education system.

“The Ministry has intensified efforts to implement virtual education in government schools from Sunday,” said Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, H E Dr Ibrahim Al Nuaimi (pictured), while talking to Qatar Radio. He said that the private schools will also apply virtual education for teaching their students.

The new teaching system is being implemented following the decision of the government to close the classes to curb the spread of COVID-19.

“The Ministry has a database of a new system like Ministry application ‘Microsoft-teams’ for teaching students from early education to grade 12,” said Al Nuaimi.  He said that the teams at the Ministry worked hard to make necessary preparations for new education system.

“Video lessons having 10 minutes duration with all necessary information about all subjects for all grades of government schools will be uploaded on daily basis starting from Sunday. About 1,700 recorded video lessons are being produced, which will be uploaded on YouTube from Sunday,” said Al Nuaimi.

He said that the students will browse the video lessons on YouTube from morning by 7am and afternoon. “They will learn and ask questions if needed to explain further the lessons,” he added.

“We will implement the new teaching system and experiment it to see the challenges arising. We expect many positive results. The challenges will be solved with the support of the parents. This is the time for them to play their roles.”

He said that there will be assessments of the students from the grade 1 to 11 daily and weekly basis, starting from March 22 when the schools will reopened as they will not undergo final exams.

“The students of grade 12 will undergo final exams from June 1 in especially arranged exam halls,” said Al Nuaimi.

He said that the Indian and Pakistani schools implemented international exams last week and this week successfully, in which large number of student took the papers. “We monitored the examination process,” said Al Nuaimi.

He urged parents and guardians to cooperate with the Ministry at time when their roles are needed utmost.

“Private schools which follow different academic calendar, have started implementing virtual education system. All private schools are responding fully and in close contact with the Ministry,” said Al Nuaimi. “We are ready to provide all support to solve any problems they would face in implementing new teaching system.” 

He said that the experiences of virtual education system will be shared between government and private schools to develop an ideal system.
